last weekend I got to photograph this adorable couple with elizabeth high on the hill of the beautiful villa parker.there were many beautiful moments and details that I could tell you all about:the decadent and fragrant floral work by The Olive and Poppy,the elegance and effortless coordination of Erica at the ever-beautiful venue Villa Parker,or even the sunset that seemed to be made for these two...but I think that what stuck out at me the most about this wedding was the family + heritage thatwas beautifully knit together throughout the ceremony and then even on to the reception.I'm not Jewish and my heritage knowledge is only as deep as what my mother finds in herquest to sort out our ancestry (which she is amazing at!)our family does not have many annual traditions other than advent at Christmas time andearly morning Easter services celebrating our Savior...so I was slightly envious at the steeped in tradition and heritage that surrounded this couple and their beautiful wedding day.it started with getting to photograph their chuppah,I learned that the chuppah is a symbol of the home that the new couple will build together.it is open on all sides, just as Abraham and Sarah had their tent open all sides to welcome people in unconditional hospitality.joel + megan stood under their chuppah with their priestess who walked them through and sang the kiddushin,the kiddushin is a blessing that incorporates blessings through song + two cups of wine.before the ceremony joel + megan, with the audience of their friends + family, signed their ketubah.the ketubah was read during the ceremony and was beautifully displayed for everyone to see during the ceremony.at the end of their ceremony, the priestess wrapped a glass for joel to break and everyone happily declared "mazel tov!"while the newlywed's kissed for the first time.the wedding festivities continued on through the night...and let me tell you, these people know how to party!I'm not sure how brave I would have been during the "chair dance"!but it was fun to get to witness and photograph the joy on everyones faces as they celebrated the newlywed's!I loved getting to be a part of this wedding ceremony with my sister...if you'd like to see more, head over to Elizabeth's facebook page - she'll be posting the conclusion in the next few weeks!Congratulations and Mazel Tov, Joel + Megan! :)
