marcy each cd cover
I feel privileged getting to be a part of photographing marcy's new cd coming out...privileged, you ask? yup. privileged. lemme explain...I come across a lot of talented people...I dunno why, but I do.talented people in music, in athletics, in dance, in art...just very obviously talented people.and the thing that makes me feel privileged about this particular session is getting to see firsthand a side to this friend that is easily kept on the downlow...her incredible talent is something that I've been listening to on repeat since I started thinking about her session and how I wanted to photograph her...her croon's have filled my ears with her seriously amazing bluesy voice about porch swings - which reminds me of summer, easy love and romance...you can almost smell the long grass blowing in the breeze imagining sitting with your love on a porch swing while she sings...and then her train song literally makes me happy and want to get up and dance...I haven't heard the finished product since she's finished recording in Nashville, but dang - it's a gooooood song. :)so yeah, all of that makes me feel pretty dang privileged...but that privileged feeling doesn't stop while I have gotten to wallow in her musical talent as I photographed and processed her images, the extra privileged feels happened during her session and after in processing them...what's extra cool for me is that I have gotten to see her rare beauty in front of my lens...why is it rare, you ask? and why is a big deal?well, I meet and photograph a lot of people...and if I'm being honest, everyone has a unique and usually pretty facial feature that grabs my attention and makes me excited to photograph, but the thing that I'm finding the more I photograph people and consider beauty, the thing that makes truly beautiful people beautiful to me,is the stuff on the inside that they let me see...that's a big deal to me.marcy let me style her with what the world says is cool...free people dresses, levi's jackets, boots (thank you, julie!) and lady eleanor bracelets that emily lent me let her personality look polished and uber cool...and monica dolling up her face and hair up to be a "fancy version of marcy" as marcy put it let her outward beauty shine... ;) (seriously, monica - you're amazing at what you and I love working with you!)but the things that made her beautiful to me throughout the session and throughout our conversation, was this woman's undeniable love for Jesus, to let Him shine through her through her talent in grace, beauty and even wit.her beauty can't help but radiate out of her in front of the camera...so THAT is why I feel privileged.privileged to have gotten to listen to her talent this entire process, privileged to get to call her friend, and privileged to have gotten to see her beauty radiate in front of my camera...she laughs at me when I say that because she apparently can't see what I see when I look through my lens at her...I suppose that only adds to her beauty - it's not intentional...it just is.love you, marcy...and thank you for trusting me with you for a day. :)
