inspiration in the details

what inspires me creatively?a lot of things.a great deal of too many things some days...and then sometimes frustratingly nothing on others.this weeks inspiration has come from drawing and food.odd mix?let me explain. :)I've decided drawing is a discipline.we all do it when we're five and make the giant circle with the red crayon...draw two slightly smaller and more-than-likely non-symmetrical littler circles within the giant red circle...a speck of a dot below the two non-symmetrical little circles...and then below the speck a very "nightmare-before-Christmas" grinning smile...slightly below the nightmare-before-christmas comes the drastically out of proportion teeny tiny stick body and arms.it made you SO happy to be able to draw this magnificent self portrait.it only validated the magnificence of your creation when your kindergartener teacherwould hold it up and inspect it and declare that it was indeed was most definitely and profoundly - "ART!"our mother's would then take them home and if you were lucky in a family of four kids...your "art" would get a coveted center spot on the fridge, proclaiming to all the world that this was, indeed, "art" as if having it hang there declared it's authenticity.I'm not sure much has changed at thirty five. :)I just got lazy along the way or came to the realization that my "art" was indeed NOT art.but the joy of creating was and still is there.so I began to draw again.nothing real...just letters.I like the way they look.simple happiness just as a five year old in kindergarten.a five year old typically doesn't draw for accolades.they draw simply because the colors are in front of them and it makes them happy.this past winter I poured over the typography & creative spaces books up there...they inspire and make me want to feel like a five year old again with my perfectly white notebook.inspiring me to think simply again and create just to create. :)the other inspiration this week is with food.God makes the best flavors with real food...you just can't say it enough.I tried making a homemade strawberry pop-tart up there and let's just say I only made them once.NOT because they were awful, but because my jeans don't need the stress. :)part the awesomeness of the recipe was the story the baker wrote with it, but also the "seed-to-plate-ness" of her recipes...have you ever tasted a ripe strawberry?like REALLY tasted one.the flavor literally explodes in your mouth from the first bite.also, can you imagine a strawberry being anything other than brilliant red?I can't...I've seen an albino strawberry on pinterest, but I don't think it's real.the deep perfect red of a strawberry contrasted with the brilliant green of it's leaves with perfectly symmetrical white dots make it alluring without even having to taste it!I don't care what chemicals and spiffy labels and red dye's you put into a Kellogg's pop-tart that says strawberry, unless it comes from the dirt, it is not truly "strawberry".they try and replicate...but you can't replicate something that's already perfect. :)perfectly flavored and colored...these books reminded me that there is inspiration to be had when noticing the details...and in my opinion, the details are worth noticing and far too often overlooked. :)
