flagstaff engagement | jake + lexi
there are two things I especially like in getting to photograph engagement sessions...1. the awkward first five minutes. ;)let me explain that one for a sec,you know the scene when anna meets hans for the first time in the disney movie frozen?the line she mutters "...this is awkward, I mean you're not awkward, I'm awkward..."that line cracks me up every timeand is seriously a good glimpse into what the first five minutes of me photographing an engagement session looks like. ;)and I'm not ashamed of my awkwardness...in fact, I think it's helped and been a good thing.I like making my clients put their faces an inch or two away from each other...I'm smiling because if that was just that, it'd be completely normal for an engaged couple to do that...it's only when I then position myself a few feet away from the couple being photographed,so close that I'm pretty sure they can hear me breathing ANDchances are I've just met the couple (in this case, lexi and I knew each other well, but jake...gosh, I'm sorry jake!) ;)yep, their inches from each others faces with a strange lady just a few feet away from their faces, trying to feel romantic.it's awkward, or rather, I'm awkward...but it's a good thing because you know what?!some of THE best smiles and laughter happens in those first five minutes...and I love it. ;)and the second thing I love about photographing engagement sessions is2. getting to hear pieces of their love story. :)the longer I am a photographer the more I realize that I am a story-teller.it's my job to tell a story with my lens.and in getting to walk around and talk with the couple during the engagement session,I ask a ton of questions...I like stories...especially love stories.and my clients have the best ones. :)chapter one: ;)this couple met in a bookstore.and it took him a couple more "random coincidence" meetings in her bookstore for him to get the courage to finally ask her out.she obviously said yes and the rest is more chapters in their love story...but the thing I especially love about this couple, is the way they tell their story...it's full of laughter, small details that each of them noticed of each other and then more laughter...I can honestly say I haven't laughed hard with/at/at myself at an engagement session than this one...it simply was just was FUN!I cannot WAIT until the spring to get to photograph another chapter of their story...it's going to be amazing! :)
