this week I've been buried with busy-ness with my daughter's junior high play...and I've loved it!but in being more on campus this week I've had flash-backs from when I was in junior high,and I've been struck that junior high really hasn't changed all that much...you still have the athletic guys that the girls love to talk and fawn over...most of these guys had an air of mystery that made them all that more attractive to the junior high girls who would obsess over them...(although I'm finding out with my our 14 year old athletic boy -that "air of mystery" is really indifference...sports, stats + practices mostly fill his mind...sorry girls!) ;)you still have the band geeks...who are so faithful to toting around their large instruments everyday because they LOVE it and couldn't think twice about NOT being a band geek!you still have the math/science clubs that I literally could never relate to...but they love their intelligent and slightly introverted world and the friends they find themselves surrounded with...and then this week I've been surrounded by the drama kids...emotionally extroverted, theatrical + dramatic,lovers of the theatre (you have to say it like white christmas for full effect)and then there were those girls that seemed almost magical...you know the girls...I'll call them the unicorn girls...but they were and still are of the title "the popular girls". :)in my mind unicorns because there literally are only one or two of them in every graduating class although many more aspire to be one,these are the girls that when they walked the halls, their flowy hair with full volume shone just a little brighter it seemed.even in junior high with braces, their make-up seemed flawless and to enhance their seemingly perfect faces...they were friends with just about everyone...the band geeks - because they probably took lessons with most of them at some point,they were friends with the math/science clubs...because those kids were their willing tutors,and they hung around the athletic guys...who loved to try and grab their attention by teasing them or asking them to the dances...teachers liked them because they were respectful and looked at teachers like real people instead of...well, teachers.I think that sometimes the popular unicorn girls get a bad rap because of how well liked they are...but I think that these girls are well liked because of just that...they really ARE that likeable.which brings me to today's girl in the post...she is most definitely a unicorn. :)she is athletic, beautiful, funny, quick-witted, doesn't take herself seriously, smart and just incredibly fun to be around + photograph.I can see the way others respond to her and her well-liked-ness is well deserved because you can see that she really IS likeable and genuine.and that genuineness comes from within and is beautiful to get to watch. :)landrey, thank you for the afternoon - I so enjoyed it! :)I can't wait to see how far you'll go at GCU these next four years! :)
