each friday on the kreatid blog, I’m shining a spotlight on a different person who I admire on a regular basis…the people who inspire me (whether in person on on-line) to strive to live every day, creatively.no matter what their creative medium is,no matter what their vocation is,if I admire them, you're gonna be introduced to them! :)in·spi·ra·tion [in-spuh-rey-shuhn] nouna thing or person that inspires.do you have people in your life who have been a part of the beginning of your creativity?people who saw you as a giant lump of clay not yet molded into anything recognizableand yet who still encouraged you to BE something?I do.jeremy is one of those people for me...when I first became interested in graphic design it was because of four people I admiredwho already were in the field...him, most definitely, being one of them.his attention to detail, use of lines + color and his combination of photography with typographic overlayswere some of the first that I marveled at.it was because of what he beautiful created that then stirred something in me to want to createand more importantly LEARN.later in this interview he says this:

"work hard.   copy, steal, ape from people who are really good until you begin to develop your own style... just make sure you are honest that you are doing it.   seek criticism but don't let it define you."

THIS was the encouragement I felt in the beginning of my own journey in design-land...this guy lived those words.his creativity is unique, his creativity is real, and his life is admirable.this is my inspiration|friday interview with my friend and someone who I greatly admire. :)

if you had to describe “you” in ten words, how would you describe yourself?

intensely curious fiercely loyal passionately rational quietly intenseloudly goofy

what is a nickname(s) you've been called in your life?

I don't think I have ever been cool enough to get a nickname.I have been teased about my middle name from time to time...namely by my wife.

who do you look to for inspiration in graphic design/art-land?

inspiration is a really odd thing. you never know where you are going to find it and most of the time, when you set out to seek it, it evades. I find that the most useful inspiration is rarely found in known places. if inspiration is water, you don't often find it pooled in a well, waiting for you to dip your bucket in and take a drink. it is more like rain...you wander outside when the dark clouds gather and you hope and pray that you get wet.

midnight blue - it's the first color I remember being aware of as a kid that was outside of the standard color set. The first time that color had shade. red - whenever my son asks my favorite color, I have to give something from the standard color set since he is five. my answer is red.whatever shade the sunset is tonight...take your pick...red, orange, yellow, pink, purple, blue.

are you OCD about anything or pretty chill?

I want to say that I am pretty chill but really odd things will get me spun up and bother me.I am specific in non-specific ways.

what's your favorite inspirational quote?

my favorite I almost hesitate to share because when your favorite quote is in Latin, it tends to make you look like a pretentious butthead but, whatever...here it goes: "dum spiro spero." it means, "while, I breathe, I hope." I love this quote because it sums up so much about my life. both of our boys suffer with cystic fibrosis that effects mainly the lungs.  it also reflects directly my faith. every day I live, every day I breathe, I look to the hope I have in Christ.  the wellspring of all hope. it also reflects my optimistic tendencies in life. love it.describe a little what CF is and how people can be involved to help cure it.we have two little boys, both of them with cystic fibrosis.  we lost our third son, paxon, at just 11 days of age to complications from the disease as well as other issues he struggled with. cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the united states (70,000 worldwide).  a defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections.  it also obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.in the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school.  today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.you can be involved by learning about the disease and by contributing directed to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation who works tirelessly to find a cure.
